‘If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball’
On Tuesday, April 15, Keuka students laced up their shoes for the 1st Annual Ashley Valentine Dodgeball Tournament. Students formed teams of 10, with at least two females, to participate in one-loss elimination rounds. Unique team names—such as Thugs United, Tummy Sticks and Blue Baracudas—and powerful entrance music followed each team through the tournament. Organizer and Intramurals Director Jonathan Accardi said he was inspired to host the tournament after his glory days as a three-year dodgeball champion. “I wanted to bring the joy I felt to the masses and impart my celebrity status on others.” Accardi named the tournament after his freshman work-study student, Ashley Valentine, as a reward for her hard work and dedication during the first semester (and because he thought it’d be funny). On a scale from 1 to 10, Accardi said the tournament was “awesome” and he hopes the same level of enthusiasm and competitive spirit will follow into next year’s event.
