360 degrees of MCC

Monroe County Community College.  With over 34,000 undergrads attending MCC each year it is one of the most populated in the Rochester Community.

The central hub of RIT, the Simone Circle.  The Sentinel, Student Alumni Union and Eastman Building are all located here at the heart of the RIT campus.


Cobbs Hill

Cobbs Hill Park, located off Monroe Ave in the Upper Monroe Neighborhood, offers a great view of the city, a fun place to take a run and a large lawn that is perfect for a summer picnic.


Hamlin Beach

Hamlin Beach, also on the shore of Lake Ontario, extends with sand about a half mile along the lake. With campsites, 10 miles of hiking trails, and a two-mile nature trail, this is the perfect spot for those that love the outdoors. The Roger Robach Community Center is also available onsite for picnics, parties, and weddings. Take Lake Ontario State Parkway to the Hamlin Beach State Park exit, and you will arrive at a spot for the ultimate nature and beach experience. Call (585) 964-2462 for more information.


Lilac Fest

Opening this past weekend in Highland Park, the flowers at the annual Lilac Festival attracted students, children, and seniors alike.


St. John Fisher College

St. John Fisher College is a liberal arts school situated in the eastern suburb of Pittsford. Established in 1948 as an all-male college, Fisher officially admitted women in September of 1971. Fisher’s educational philosophy centers on its founder, St. Basil, who believed in care for the poor and underprivileged. The college emphasizes liberal learning and independent thinking, brought about by the its many student organizations and clubs.


Nazareth College

Founded in 1924 by the Sisters of St. Joseph, Nazareth was originally a women’s college, but in the 1970s the college officially became independent of the Sisters and became co-ed. Located outside the village of Pittsford and down East Avenue from St. John Fisher, the campus doubled in size in 2000, allowing the construction of the Golisano Academic Center and new apartment living for upperclassmen.


Black & Blue

If you’re interested in steak or seafood, Black & Blue is the spot. Prices range from $16 for pork chops, to $44 for a whole Maine lobster. There is also a wine list for pairing with your dinner, and desserts that will make your family congratulate your accomplishments, all over again.


Muddy Waters

Hidden behind the Cinema Theatre on the corner of South Clinton and South Goodman avenues, Muddy Waters coffee house is all about supporting the Rochester community, as well as the global community. With pastries baked in Rochester at Scarpulla’s and Georgie’s Bakeries, local artwork covering the walls and organic and fair trade coffees from around the globe, this coffee house is assuring that the community is benefiting from your purchase.


Equal=Grounds

Equal=Grounds, located in the South Wedge in Rochester, is not your average ROC coffee shop. A few small touches of rainbow décor lead way to the shop’s support of the LGBT community. With a large drink menu ranging from the standard house brew to Italian and French sodas, even the straightest nail in Rochester can find a drink they’ll enjoy.


Starry Nites Cafe

Dripping with Vincent van Gogh paintings, most notably the “Starry Night” mural on the back wall of the café, this quaint corner coffee bar is inspired almost entirely by the post-impressionist. Its relaxed ambience perfect for hanging out with friends, or just your laptop.


Cafe Cibon

Walking into this European-style cafe’s will remind you of the trendiest Manhattan nightspots. Inside, low-lighting and mood music create a relaxed atmosphere and tables decked-out with comfy benches and throw pillows complete the casual ambiance.

This spacious café has a slightly older crowd than other cafes in the area, such as Java’s. But it’s a little quieter too, so its just the place to catch up on reading or work on your laptop, especially especially during the day.

Canaltown Coffee Roasters

Canaltown is a cozy little shop right on Main Street in Pittsford, perfect for Nazareth and Fisher students! Its low-key small-town vibe, is perfect for a quick study break or catching up with friends.
