Perfect picnic spots
Eating outside is one of the joys of the warm summer air, but even better than finding a restaurant with an outside patio is packing a picnic and creating a memory. Whether it is your significant other or best friend, a picnic can be a fun experience, and every person involved can pitch in. The most important part of a picnic is not the food (for some it may be!), but it is about picking the perfect spot; a spot that is scenic and beautiful, to relax and eat the delicious treats that have been prepared. A description of a few places follow, along with why this may just be your perfect picnic destination.
Let’s start furthest from downtown Rochester and work our way into the city:
Mendon Ponds Park is absolutely jam packed with trees. The name plays off of the idea that there are ponds in this park. Within these rolling hills that Mendon Ponds contains, are many places that could host a nice picnic. Located off of Clover Road in Mendon, this is a perfect place to explore.
The Erie Canal is a historic landmark in Rochester. Along the canal are many places that you could sit with your packed lunch and loved one, to people watch and enjoy a good meal. Erie Canal Park is located in Pittsford off of Monroe Avenue and has many benches along the way welcoming your bottoms.
Highland Park, famous for hosting the annual Lilac Festival, is also a place to check out. With a fountain in its reservoir on top of the hill, Highland may entail some climbing. If you are willing to do a little searching, there are spots amongst the trees with sunshine peeking through the trees.
Cobbs Hill Park located on the corner of Monroe Avenue and Culver Road is very convenient. With both a park and a reservoir area, it contains many special spots. The most interesting spot is on top of the reservoir where there is a beautiful view of the city from a high altitude.
There are, of course, other spots, but these were some favorites. Now, what food to bring is entirely up to you. Remember a blanket to sit on, and throw away or recycle your trash. These places are beautiful for a reason.
